Lori Lewison

Lori is the CEO/Producer of Workplace Marketing Insurance Advisors in Sioux Falls, SD. For over 20 years, she has provided service for many in the South Dakota area. She specializes in providing employers with cost-saving solutions that not only maintain strong benefits for their employees but often provide premium relief and or a refund at the end of a plan year.

She is known for creative benefits packages, great customer service, constant and timely communication, and strong attention to detail, all the while keeping a client compliant with federal and state regulations. Many other agencies are not willing to go the extra mile to serve their clients, but her personal and professional mission statement is, “It is not about me, but rather what is best for my client.”

The Story Behind Workplace Marketing

Lori is originally from Sioux Falls and is happy to be in her hometown again. She started this agency over 20 years ago because of a family situation. In May 2001, her sister, Sharon, was diagnosed with an advanced stage of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. At the time of her sister’s diagnosis, her sister and her husband, Terry, had a six-year-old, three-year-old, and seven-week-old baby. Lori was living in the Twin Cities area, where she was a business partner in a firm consulting for companies regarding human resources, recruiting, and benefits management.

Sharon was told in order for her to have long-term survival, she needed to do chemo, receive a stem cell transplant, and have radiation. At the time of her diagnosis, she was on her husband’s insurance. He worked for a large organization where there wasn’t a dedicated agent to help resolve issues. Their provider denied her stem cell transplant. Sharon was too sick to try to resolve the issue herself and was having a difficult time finding an agent to assist.

In Minneapolis, Lori searched for agencies authorized to sell for this provider in the phone book; however, she could not find an agent that would help because they were not the agents for that organization. Lori’s last resort was to take on the challenge herself and determine how to appeal the denial. Sharon received her stem cell transplant in October 2001; she is over 20 years cancer-free.

Sharon’s diagnosis was a life-changing experience for Lori and her family. Lori’s priorities changed, and in 2003, she sold her home and business in the Twin Cities. She returned to Sioux Falls to open Workplace Marketing Insurance Advisors without a client. Working hard to provide reliable products and customer service, she exceeded every client’s expectations, leading her agency to grow exponentially. The mission statement established in 2003 has not changed, “It’s not about me, but rather what’s best for the client.” The agency continues to help whoever walks through the door regardless of the agent who sold the product in question. Lori is well aware that there are countless people who face dilemmas like that of Sharon and is determined to prevent these types of scenarios in the future.

Since moving here, Lori has become very involved in the community. She is on the finance committee of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church and a board member of Feisty Fighters, an organization supporting the fight against cancer. She is also a board member of the Children’s Home Society and was previously on the board of Susan G Komen, Lifescape, the City of Sioux Falls Disability Awareness Committee, and the Juvenile Diabetes Association of the Dakotas. She volunteers all around the community as often as she can and strives to make a difference in the lives of many. She spends most of her time outside of work with her dog-son Hudson and her family that live in the area. She takes extreme pride in her incredible nieces and nephews.
